Websites

1 99% of the time don't use flash
2 the most important user of your site is Google not you or any other human
3 no more than 3 clicks to get to any page of a website
4 start early get a place holder page up ASAP to alow the search engines to get to know that the site exists.
5 don't use frames
6 start simple don't run before you can walk
7 decide how the site will work and what functions it will alow the user to do before doing any design work.
8 Design so that menues and navigation can be expaned (leave space for extra buttons)
9 before launch and during the design phase get some non involved and non technical people to use the site if you working on it evry day it can be dificult to look at it with fresh eyes as an end user would

It's a interesting article and an intersting idea. How about starting off with

1. Keep your website simple and easy to use.
2. Try and collect email addresses at every opportunity.

Good luck,

Reminds me of BT when they ran an ad in the PRESTEL subscribers magazine (a pre internet video text service).

The add was a picture of a "Cute Kitten" and the strap line was Resubscribe or the Kitten Gets it - needless to say this caused a fuss and they huridly had to pulp some 50,000 copies of the magazine.
